Pray always

Some prayers sound an awful lot like the supplication "O God, don’t let (this, that, or the other thing) happen to me." Other prayers affirm an absolute. "O God, you always know what’s best. You’re the man."
What about those prayers that beg, "O God, help me make it through this boner." These prayers may be the the most sincere acknowledgment of the need for healing. We are not the "favored child". We can’t suck up and get special treatment. Sometimes we’re assholes, we make mistakes, and we screw up. It is a real accomplishment to admit you can improve, to change and become a better caregiver.
