You Don’t Know What It’s Like

You don’t know what it’s like

to be the other guy

to have your world fall apart

to realize that nobody seems to care

and then to slip into despair

You don’t know what it’s like

it would kill an ordinary man

It takes a leap of faith

to escape the snares of Caregiving

and to do the right thing

You don’t know what it’s like

unless you’re already mired

in the depths of loving without expectations,

strings, or guarantees

to be hopeful and positive

(or to not flood impossible situations with negativity)

If you’re spared

You won’t know what it’s like
